Everything Is Miscellaneous

David Weinberger has been already moving the furniture all over our comfort zones, being one of the mavericks who wrote “The Cluetrain Manifesto” (observe how yesterday’s life-changers become today’s flatliners, sobering.)

In his “Everything Is Miscellaneous: The Power of the New Digital Disorder“, Weinberger argues that digital information is multiplicious – we can keep many copies, in a variety of formats, at various locations. “we have to get rid of the idea that there’s a best way of organizing the world” concludes Weinberger, it all becomes miscellaneous. In fact, he argues that the only way we can survive through the upheaval we experience in Education, science, and culture business and even politics

I loved Weinberger’s case studies – for example, a look at the over-stretched, soon-to-explode maybe? Dewey decimal system. I also agree fully with the notion (my children will love this one!!) that the future is less about memorising facts and more about the ability to access them on demand.

A piece of software who loves me

A story doing the RSS rounds got my attention, but first – I must say a word about an issue that’s related to marketing and communication (which is what I do for a living). It’s about a story I read on the Search Industry Blog Normally, I would have left the piece for dead, because it starts with the oldest schlock-line in the business: “As part of their continuing efforts to help their clients save money, gain a more thorough understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and enhance the marketing potential of their websites…” dlah dlah dlah. To paraphrase Mr. Marks, the obnoxious chief-accountant in Mel Brooks’ masterpiece The Producers– “Do I smell the revolting stench of self promotion?”
